When it comes to Featured websites, we’re typically on the prowl for users to showcase – but in this instance, Miracle Mittens and More happened to fall right in our lap!
Mary Bevan and her sister designed a website with Yola to promote their magnificent mitten making business. She recently reached out for help regarding the positioning of the logo, as well as the design of her website as a whole. Based on what she wished to accomplish, we thought a Style-refresh to Skyline would best suit her needs. This flexible new Style works wonders when it comes to any business logo, as it gives you complete control of its properties, which is exactly what she was looking for.
We know that change can be scary, and while Mary was open to new suggestions she was a bit overwhelmed with the transition. She shares her experience below and is delighted with what she was able to achieve on her own!
My sisters and I started our business, Miracle Mittens & More, four years ago. We make mittens, hats, and other eco-friendly items from upcycled sweaters. I discovered Yola and designed and launched our website about one year ago. Over the past year, we had the great fortune to work with some very talented photographers so I decided to update our website to incorporate our new photos.
While updating our site, I experienced a minor technical issue (quite possibly user error!). I sent an email to Yola asking for assistance and was pleased to receive a speedy response from Laura, a Yola customer support representative. During our exchange, I asked Laura if she had any suggestions for improving our site. She recommended trying a new template and said that Skyline might be a good fit for us – so I quickly went into our site and applied the new template. I initially panicked because the new template resulted in a drastic change! It was obvious that it would require some tweaking (re-sizing images, etc.) to make it work. I got really nervous when I couldn’t figure out how to get our site back to the way it was. So, I sent another email to Laura. She made some adjustments for me and encouraged me to give the new template a try, assuring me that we could go back to our old template if I wanted to do so. She also reminded me that none of these changes would go public until I wished to publish them. With that in mind I decided to go for it.
Swapping the template resulted in a major improvement. Our Miracle Mittens & More logo is now at the top of every page (where it should be) and important elements (pull quotes, call to action buttons, etc.) now appear in the same spot on every page. The ability to use a unique banner image on every page was important to me, and I found the column divider widget to be quite useful. The end result is a clean, cohesive site design. My new goal is to learn more about SEO and generate additional site traffic.
I’m not a professional web designer, but I’m very proud of our website now. I’ve received great feedback from others including my sisters/business partners and even my teenagers!
Many thanks to the Yola team for providing such a great resource to help small businesses like ours!
Warm Regards,
Mary Bevan
